How to scan a document on Android

To scan a document on Android, open the RealScaner scanner in Chrome, photograph the page, mark the four edges, and download PDF. There is no Play Store install. Processing stays on the phone. The same steps work on Samsung, Pixel, Motorola, Xiaomi, and OnePlus.

People search this when a school portal, HR desk, or landlord wants a PDF of a form, ID, receipt, or homework and they only have an Android phone. A hardware flatbed still belongs on certified copies, notarized packets, and bound books. Everyday paper does not.

Use Chrome, not a scanner app

Chrome already has the camera permission Android needs. Open realscaner.com, tap the camera button, and Android’s own camera takes one shot, then returns you to the page. That is the whole capture loop. You crop there, add pages there, and download there.

If Chrome asks for camera access, allow it for this visit. If you already photographed the sheet in the Gallery, import that photo instead of shooting again, as long as the smallest line of text is sharp.

Scan the page

Put the sheet on a dark, plain table. Smooth wrinkles. If the paper is thin, slide a blank page underneath so print from the back does not show through. Hold the phone straight above the page.

  1. Open realscaner.com in Chrome.
  2. Tap the camera button. Leave a thin margin so all four corners stay in the frame.
  3. Mark the edges. Drag each corner onto the paper. That squares a page shot at a slight angle.
  4. Add the next page from the thumbnail strip if the packet has more than one sheet.
  5. Download PDF. Open the file from Downloads and scroll it before you send it.

The camera button hands off to your phone’s own camera, the one you already know. Tap add page and shoot again for each sheet. The stack walkthrough is in how to scan multiple pages into one PDF.

Lighting on a phone you hold in one hand

  • Stand by a window. Ceiling lamps put a hot spot in the middle and a shadow from your hands.
  • Turn the flash off on glossy paper and thermal receipts. Move until the glare is gone.
  • Fill the frame with the paper, then crop so the table drops out.
  • Keep the same height and light for every page so the PDF looks like one document.

Samsung, Pixel, and everyone else

Samsung Camera and Pixel Scan can capture a page too. If you already took that photo, import it into RealScaner, mark the edges, and export PDF so you still get a squared file you can compress and reorder. You do not have to reshoot a good picture.

Chrome is the path that stays the same across brands. You skip a Play Store listing, a Google account for Drive, and a second app whose free tier watermarks the PDF.

After the download

Android puts the file in Downloads. Open it once. Look for a clipped signature, an upside-down page, and a blank back you did not mean to keep. If the order is wrong, drag pages in Organize PDF. If an upload portal rejects the size, run it through PDF compression. Portal rejections are covered in how to prepare a PDF for an upload portal.

Need a signature drawing on the page? Use the signature maker, then know that markup on a scan is a drawing, and a cryptographic digital signature is a separate, certificate-based step.

Identity cards, notarized copies, and court filings still follow the office’s own rules. When a phone scan is good enough draws that line. Basic scan-to-PDF steps are in how to scan a document to PDF. The no-account, no-watermark path is in how to use an online document scanner for free.

Common questions

How do I scan a document on Android?

Open RealScaner in Chrome, allow the camera, photograph the sheet from above, mark the four edges, add more pages if you need them, then download PDF. You do not install an app from the Play Store.

Does this work on Samsung, Pixel, and other Android phones?

Yes. Chrome on any recent Android phone is enough. The scan runs in the browser. You do not need Samsung Camera’s document mode, Pixel Scan, or a Google account.

Can I scan more than one page on Android?

Yes. After you crop the first sheet, add the next page from the thumbnail strip and shoot again. Download once at the end so every sheet lands in the same PDF.

Where does the PDF go on my phone?

Chrome saves it through the usual Android download sheet. Open the file from Downloads, then attach it to email or an upload form. If the portal rejects the size, compress the PDF first.
