How to scan multiple pages into one PDF

Scan the first page in RealScaner, then use the add page button for every sheet after it, and download once at the end. That gives you a single PDF instead of a folder of photos. The part that trips people up is not the scanning. It is the order, the blank backs, and the file size.

A lease with eleven pages, a medical form with a stapled insurance card behind it, three weeks of homework: they all go through the same steps. Here is how to do it without ending up with page seven in the middle of page two.

Get the stack ready before you touch the camera

Take the staples out. A bent corner under a staple is the reason half of all multi-page scans have one wonky page. Then put the sheets in the order the recipient expects. If the form says cover letter first and receipts last, stack them that way now. Fixing order later is possible, but it is a lot less annoying to get it right once.

Decide on the backs too. If a back is blank, skip it. If it has a stamp, a signature, or fine print, it counts as a page and gets its own photo.

Scan, add, repeat

  1. Open realscaner.com and take a photo of the first sheet, or import one you already have.
  2. Drag the four corners onto the edges of the paper. Do this before moving on, while the page is still fresh in your head.
  3. Hit the plus in the thumbnail strip to add the next sheet. Photo again, corners again.
  4. When the last page is in, scroll through the thumbnails once. Remove any page that came out blurry and retake it.
  5. Download the PDF.

The camera button opens your phone's own camera for each sheet and drops you straight back on the page to set the corners. By the third page it is a quick rhythm.

Keep the pages looking like they belong together

The easiest way to ruin a multi-page scan is to change how you shoot halfway through. Page one in daylight by the window, page five under a lamp, and the PDF looks like two different documents stapled together.

  • Stay in one spot. Same table, same light, same height above the paper.
  • Keep the phone upright for every page unless a sheet is truly landscape.
  • Leave the same thin margin around each sheet so the crops come out a similar size.
  • Skip the flash. Glossy pages and thermal receipts bounce it straight back.

More on light and glare is in how to scan a document on your phone.

When the order comes out wrong

It happens. You scanned the signature page first because it was on top. Download the PDF and open Organize PDF, drag the pages into the right order, and drop any you do not want. You do not have to rescan anything. The longer walkthrough is in merge and reorder PDF pages.

If you only have separate PDFs already, say a scan from last week and a receipt someone emailed you, skip the scanner entirely and join them in Merge PDF. It copies the PDF pages without turning them into images, and it takes JPG, PNG, and WebP photos too.

Big stacks make big files

Ten phone photos in one PDF can easily pass the 10 MB cap that a lot of email and portal forms enforce. If the upload gets rejected, run it through PDF compression and check that small text is still readable at normal zoom. For the portal side of this, how to prepare a PDF for an upload portal covers the common rejections.

Name the file for the person opening it, something like 2026-10-lease-signed-11pp.pdf. Page count in the name saves a phone call when a clerk says the file looks short.

Before you hit send

Open the finished PDF and scroll it top to bottom. You are looking for three things: a page that is missing, a page that is upside down, and a signature that got clipped at the edge. Two minutes now beats a rejected submission on Friday afternoon. If a page did come out sideways or upside down, how to rotate a PDF and save it shows how to fix it without scanning again.

If the job needs a notarized or certified copy, a phone scan will not do it no matter how clean the pages are. When a phone scan is good enough draws that line. Other ways to do the basic scan are in how to scan a document to PDF and how to scan a document without a scanner.

Common questions

How do I scan multiple pages into one PDF?

Open RealScaner, take or import the first page, fix its corners, then add the next page from the thumbnail strip. Repeat until the stack is done and download once. Every page lands in the same PDF.

Can I add a page I forgot after I have already cropped the others?

Yes. Add it with the same plus button. If it ends up in the wrong spot, download the PDF and reorder it in Organize PDF. You do not have to rescan the pages that were already fine.

How does the camera button work for a stack of pages?

It opens your phone's own camera for each sheet and brings the photo straight back to the page. Tap add page for the next sheet, or choose several photos at once from the gallery.

Can I combine scanned pages with a PDF I already have?

You can import an existing PDF into the workspace alongside new photos. If you only need to merge finished files, Merge PDF does that without a new scan, and it takes JPG, PNG, and WebP photos too.
