What is the CAS statement password?
The CAS statement password depends on who sent the statement. An e-CAS from NSDL or CDSL, the two depositories, opens with the PAN of the first or sole demat account holder in capital letters, such as ABCDE1234F. A CAS you requested on the CAMS or KFintech website opens with the password you typed in their request form. It is not your Client ID, your date of birth, or a login password. Once you have it, RealScaner Unlock PDF saves a copy that opens without a password, right in your browser, so you stop typing your PAN every time you open the statement.
The rules below are quoted from NSDL, CDSL, CAMS, KFintech, MFCentral, SEBI, and the Income Tax Department. Each source is linked at the end. Facts are current as of October 29, 2026.
What is the NSDL CAS password?
Your PAN, in capital letters. NSDL’s CAS FAQ says, “NSDL e-CAS would be a password protected digitally signed PDF file. Investor will be required to enter PAN of the first/sole demat account holder in CAPITAL letters as a password to open the same.” NSDL’s e-CAS website says that by subscribing “you receive a password protected copy of your NSDL-CAS on your registered email ID.”
Three words in that rule decide whether the file opens:
- PAN. The password is the PAN on your PAN card, not your demat account number or Client ID.
- CAPITAL. Every letter in upper case.
abcde1234ffails whereABCDE1234Fworks. - First/sole. On a joint account, use the PAN of the first holder. SEBI’s CAS circular says that for multiple holdings the statement is consolidated on the “PAN of the first holder and pattern of holding.”
Some websites that rank for this search give other NSDL rules, such as your 8-digit Client ID, or your PAN followed by your date of birth. NSDL’s FAQ, its e-CAS website, and its investor help portal all state the same rule: the PAN in capitals, nothing added. The Client ID rule belongs to a different NSDL file, covered under the NSDL ID question below.
What is the CDSL CAS password?
The same as NSDL. CDSL’s CAS FAQ answers “How can the investor open the password protected CDSL e-CAS?” with, “Investor will be required to enter PAN of the first/sole demat account holder in CAPITAL letters as a password to open the eCAS.” CDSL lists the password among the reasons to take the statement by email: “Safe: eCAS are password protected for security.”
You do not need to know which depository sent your statement, because both use the same rule. If you have demat accounts with both, CDSL says “the depository having the demat account which has been opened earlier shall be the default depository” and sends the CAS.
Do not mix it up with easi, CDSL’s online login. CDSL’s easi FAQ tells new users to enter “complete PAN (in caps on) and first four digits of date of birth. (PAN + DDMM) as password” on the registration screen. That combination is for registering the login. The e-CAS PDF needs the PAN alone.
What is the password for a CAMS or KFintech CAS?
The password you chose. CAMS and KFintech, two registrars that service mutual funds, offer a joint CAS that, in CAMS’s words, “provides a comprehensive view of the investor’s holdings across Funds serviced by all the RTAs.” Both request forms make you set a password before the statement is emailed:
- CAMS: “For improved security, the statement will be encrypted using the password provided by you in the form above, and emailed only to the address registered in your folio.”
- KFintech: “The statement will be delivered to you in a secure PDF format, please enter a self-extraction password to secure the statement. You will need this password to open the statement.”
The forms’ rules can jog your memory. CAMS asks for 8 to 15 characters that start with a letter and include at least one capital letter, one number, and one of @ # $ * _. KFintech asks for at least 8 characters with a capital letter, a small letter, a number, and a special character. Under those rules a password always contains a special character, so a CAS requested today will not open with your PAN alone.
If you have forgotten the password, submit the form again with a new one. The new statement goes to the email registered in your folios and opens with the new password.
A statement you did not request works differently. SEBI’s circular says that for investors with “no demat account and only MF units holding”, the fund houses and their registrars “shall continue to send the CAS.” Neither CAMS nor KFintech publishes the password for those emailed statements on the pages checked, and statements from a single fund house follow that fund house’s format. For both, check the email the PDF arrived in.
NSDL CAS password example
Take a made-up investor with PAN ABCDE1234F, born on 15 August 1990, whose NSDL Client ID is 12345678. Their e-CAS opens like this:
ABCDE1234Fopens it.abcde1234ffails, because the letters are in lower case.ABCDE1234F15081990fails, because a date of birth was added.12345678fails, because that is the Client ID.- On a joint account, the second holder’s PAN fails. Only the first holder’s PAN opens it.
A CDSL e-CAS works exactly the same way. The AIS PDF from the income tax portal is the opposite case: the Income Tax Department asks for “the PAN (in lower case) and the date of birth,” so PAN AAAAA1234A and a birth date of 21 January 1991 give aaaaa1234a21011991. The e-PAN and e-Aadhaar rules sit side by side with AIS in what is the PAN card PDF password.
Why is my CAS password not working?
Work through these in order:
- Small letters. Phone keyboards often switch back to lower case after the first letter. Type the PAN with caps lock on, or show the password while you type to check it.
- The wrong holder. On a joint account, only the first holder’s PAN opens an NSDL or CDSL e-CAS.
- Something added. No date of birth, no spaces, nothing before or after the PAN. If you paste the PAN from a note, a hidden space at the end is enough to make it fail.
- A different statement. A CAS from the CAMS or KFintech form needs the password you set there. A single fund house statement, the AIS, an e-PAN, and an e-Aadhaar each follow their own rule.
- A login password. Your NSDL IDeAS, CDSL easi, or registrar login password is not the PDF password, and neither is the PAN plus DDMM used to register easi.
- A damaged copy. If the right PAN still fails, download the statement again as described below and try the fresh file.
How to get your NSDL CAS statement again
NSDL’s investor help portal says, “The investor can download the duplicate E-CAS statements from NSDL website by registering for Internet Based Demat Account Statement (IDeAS) facility through our website https://eservices.nsdl.com to subscribe for Consolidated Account Statement through email (i.e. e-CAS). Investor may able to view the e-CAS which is sent by NSDL in previous twelve months.” Its older FAQ adds, “You can inform NSDL or your Participant for this purpose.”
For the other senders:
- CDSL: the CAS FAQ says you “can download the CAS statements dispatched to him by CDSL from the ‘CAS’ tab” on cdslindia.com, and the easi FAQ says you can “view and download the CAS through your easi login from the CAS menu.”
- CAMS or KFintech: submit the request form again. You set a new password, and the statement is emailed to the address registered in your folios.
- MFCentral: the platform “conceived by KFintech & CAMS” lets you generate a Summary or Detailed CAS and download it after you sign in. Its FAQ says, “Email of CAS is currently not available. You may only download it on your computer at this point in time.”
If you are waiting for the next one, NSDL says a CAS is sent “in the next month” after any transaction, and otherwise half-yearly, “with holdings as on March and September end in the next month viz., April and October respectively.”
Is the NSDL ID the same as the CAS password?
No. NSDL identifies your account with two codes, and neither is the password. NSDL explains, “DP ID is 8 characters long code, (example IN3XXXXX) allotted by NSDL to all DPs to identify them. Client ID is 8 digit long code used to identify the clients in the system. Combination of DP ID and Client ID makes your unique account number in the NSDL system.” A CDSL account number is 16 digits: CDSL’s easi FAQ calls the BOID a “Demat Account Number which is of 16 digits consisting of 08 digits DP ID and 08 digits Client ID.”
Neither number opens your e-CAS. The PAN does. The Client ID does open a different NSDL file: the e-Voting email that carries a shareholder’s voting login. NSDL’s e-Voting FAQ says those IDs and passwords are sent “in an encrypted PDF which can be opened by the members/shareholders by using their Client ID (last 8 digit of the 16 digit demat account number).” That rule is for e-Voting PDFs only.
What is a CAS in mutual funds?
CAS stands for Consolidated Account Statement. SEBI’s circular of November 12, 2014 set it up “to enable a single consolidated view of all the investments of an investor in Mutual Funds (MF) and securities held in demat form with the Depositories,” and says, “Consolidation of account statement shall be done on the basis of PAN.” That is why the depositories use the PAN as the password. NSDL describes its version as “a single account statement consisting of transactions and holdings in investor’s demat account(s) held with NSDL and CDSL as well as in units of Mutual Funds held in Statement of Account (SOA) form.”
Who sends it depends on what you hold. If you have a demat account and mutual fund units, the depository sends the CAS. If you only hold mutual fund units, the fund houses and their registrars send it. The CAMS and KFintech CAS you request yourself covers the funds those registrars service, and CAMS notes that it “may not reflect the complete information on your DEMAT holdings.”
How to remove the password from a CAS PDF
Removing the password saves a second copy that opens without one, which helps when you need to upload the statement somewhere that will not take a protected file.
- Open Unlock PDF on your phone or computer and choose the CAS PDF.
- The tool checks the file’s protection and asks for a password only if one is needed.
- Type your PAN in capitals for an NSDL or CDSL e-CAS, or the password you set for a CAMS or KFintech CAS. Use the eye button to check what you typed.
- Press Unlock PDF. If the password is wrong, the tool says so, changes nothing, and lets you try again.
- When the result reads “Checked: the copy opens without a password,” press Download PDF. The copy has
-unlockedadded to its name, and your original is not changed.
RealScaner Unlock PDF runs qpdf, an open-source PDF program, inside the browser tab, so the statement and your PAN are never uploaded. The password is used once, cleared from the field, and never stored or logged. The copy keeps the text, images, links, forms, and bookmarks, because the file is decrypted rather than turned into pictures. From the result screen you can go straight to Merge PDF to join the statement with other documents, or Compress PDF when a portal caps the file size.
NSDL calls its e-CAS a “digitally signed PDF file,” and removing a password rewrites the file, so the signature no longer validates on the copy. RealScaner Unlock PDF spots the signature and warns you next to the download button, so you keep the signed original for anyone who checks it. Acrobat Pro steps and other ways to unlock are in why is my PDF password protected.
A CAS lists your holdings across demat accounts and mutual funds, so treat it with care. CAMS warns that a statement sent by email “could be intercepted by hackers while en route to your mailbox, or seen by unauthorized individuals if your inbox security is inadequate.” The same care applies to sites that ask you to upload the statement and type its password into their server.
CAS password FAQ in Hinglish
Mutual fund statement ka password kya hota hai?
Ye is baat par depend karta hai ki statement kisne bheja. NSDL ya CDSL ka e-CAS ho to password aapka PAN hai, CAPITAL letters mein, jaise ABCDE1234F. Joint account mein pehle holder ka PAN daaliye. CAMS ya KFintech ki website se CAS mangaya tha to wahi password lagega jo aapne form mein bhara tha. Kisi ek fund house ka statement ho to wo email dekhiye jisme PDF aaya tha.
NSDL CAS statement kya hota hai?
CAS yaani Consolidated Account Statement. Isme aapke demat account ke shares aur mutual fund units ek hi statement mein dikhte hain, PAN ke basis par. Kisi mahine transaction hua ho to agle mahine aata hai, warna har chhe mahine. Password milne par use RealScaner Unlock PDF mein ek baar daaliye aur bina password wali copy save kar lijiye. File aapke browser se bahar nahi jaati.
What Unlock PDF does

Common questions
What is the password to open a CAS?
It depends on who sent it. An e-CAS from NSDL or CDSL opens with the PAN of the first or sole demat account holder in capital letters, such as ABCDE1234F. A CAS you requested on the CAMS or KFintech website opens with the password you typed in their form.
What is the password for a CDSL statement?
CDSL’s CAS FAQ says to enter the PAN of the first or sole demat account holder in capital letters. The PAN plus DDMM combination in CDSL’s easi FAQ is for registering the easi login, not for the e-CAS PDF.
Is the NSDL ID the same as the CAS password?
No. Your NSDL account number is your DP ID plus your 8-digit Client ID. The e-CAS password is your PAN in capitals. A Client ID opens NSDL e-Voting PDFs, which is a different file.
Why is my CAS password not working?
Check that the PAN is in capital letters, that it is the first holder’s PAN on a joint account, and that you have not added a date of birth. If the CAS came from CAMS or KFintech, it needs the password you set, so request a new statement with a new password if you have forgotten it.
How do I get my NSDL CAS statement again?
NSDL says you can download duplicate e-CAS statements by registering for IDeAS on eservices.nsdl.com, and view the e-CAS it sent in the previous twelve months. CDSL statements can be downloaded from the CAS tab on cdslindia.com or from the CAS menu in easi.
What is a CAS in mutual funds?
A Consolidated Account Statement. A 2014 SEBI circular set it up to give a single consolidated view of an investor’s mutual fund units and demat holdings, matched by PAN. It comes monthly when there is a transaction and half-yearly otherwise.
How do I remove the password from a CAS PDF?
Open RealScaner Unlock PDF, choose the statement, type your PAN in capitals or the password you set, and press Unlock PDF. The file and the password stay in your browser, and your original is not changed.
