How to delete pages from a PDF
To delete pages from a PDF, open the file in RealScaner Organize PDF, tick the checkbox on each page you want gone, press Delete, then export and download the new file. It is free, needs no account, and works in the browser on a phone or a computer. The file is processed on your device, never uploaded. On a Mac you can also use Preview, and on a recent iPhone the Preview app.
The usual reason people search this: a portal wants five pages and you have twelve, or a scan picked up the blank back of every sheet. Most "free" page removers want an upload, a login, or a trial first. Here are the steps for each device, plus the cases where deleting a page causes more trouble than it solves.
How to delete pages from a PDF for free
- Open Organize PDF and choose your PDF. You can add more than one file if you are combining them.
- Wait for the page thumbnails to render. Each card shows the page number, the source file, and the page size.
- Tick the checkbox on every page you want to remove. You can select as many as you like.
- Press Delete. The pages disappear from the grid and the page count updates.
- Press Export PDF, then Download organized PDF. The file is saved with
-organizedadded to the original name, for examplelease-organized.pdf.
Deleted the wrong page? Undo and Redo sit in the same toolbar, and Reset puts every page back the way it was when you added the file. The organizer keeps the last 50 steps. If you delete every page, it tells you to undo or reset before you can export.
One thing worth knowing: the kept pages are copied into the new file, not turned into pictures. Text stays selectable, vector graphics stay sharp, and mixed page sizes (an A4 form next to a letter-size receipt) stay as they were.
How to extract pages from a PDF
Sometimes you do not want to delete anything. You want pages 3 to 5 as their own file and the full document left alone. In Organize PDF, tick the pages you want and press Extract selected. You get a separate download named with -extracted-pages. The pages are not removed from the organizer, so you can extract a second set, or still export the complete document afterward.
On a Mac, Preview does the same thing by drag and drop: Apple says you can create a new PDF by dragging thumbnails from the sidebar to the desktop.
How to rearrange pages in a PDF
The same screen reorders pages. Drag a card to its new spot, or use the Move earlier and Move later arrows on each card, which work better on a phone. With a page focused, Alt plus the left or right arrow key moves it from the keyboard. Rotate left and Rotate right fix a sideways scan, and how to rotate a PDF and save it explains why a rotation made in a PDF viewer does not stick. Pages from different files can be mixed in any order.

How to delete pages from a PDF on a Mac
Preview is built into macOS and handles this well. Apple's steps:
- Open the PDF in Preview and choose View > Thumbnails (or View > Contact Sheet).
- Select the page or pages to delete. Hold Command to pick several.
- Press the Delete key, or choose Edit > Delete.
Apple notes that deleting a page also removes all the annotations on it. Preview edits the open file, so if you want to keep the original, make a copy with File > Duplicate before you start. To rearrange, drag thumbnails to a new spot in the same sidebar.
How to delete pages from a PDF on iPhone
Since iOS 26, iPhone has a Preview app for PDFs. Apple's iPhone User Guide gives these steps:
- Open the PDF in the Preview app.
- Tap the page count to show thumbnails. If the page count is hidden, tap the PDF first.
- Touch and hold the thumbnail of the page you want gone, then tap Delete Page.
To undo, Apple says to open the menu and tap Undo. To move a page, touch and hold its thumbnail until the menu appears, then drag it above or below another page. This works one page at a time. For a long document with many pages to cut, Organize PDF in Safari is faster because you can tick them all and delete once.
How to delete pages from a PDF on Android
Android does not have a built-in page deleter in the same way. Google's help page for Files by Google lists opening, sharing, searching, printing, and annotating PDFs, but not deleting pages. You have two free options:
- Open Organize PDF in Chrome on the phone, pick the file, tick the pages, delete, and export. Use the Move earlier and Move later arrows if you also need to reorder.
- Use the print trick below: in Files by Google, open the PDF, tap More, then Print, choose Save as PDF as the printer, and set a page range that leaves out the pages you do not want.
How to delete a page from a PDF without Acrobat
Any desktop browser can do a rough version of this with no extra software. You are not deleting pages so much as printing the ones you want into a new PDF.
- Open the PDF in Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
- Press Ctrl + P on Windows, or Command + P on a Mac.
- Set the destination or printer to Save as PDF.
- Under Pages, choose Custom and type the pages to keep, such as
1-4, 6, 8-12. - Save the new file under a different name.
Microsoft's help page for printing in Edge confirms the Pages options: All, Odd pages only, Even pages only, and Custom, where you enter a range or specific pages separated by commas. This is also the main free route on Windows, since Microsoft's feature list for the Edge PDF reader covers viewing, printing, form filling, and annotating, with no page organizing.
The catch: printing rebuilds the document. Fillable form fields, bookmarks, and attachments can be lost along the way. If any of that matters, use Organize PDF or Preview instead.
Can you delete pages in Adobe Acrobat Reader?
Not in the free desktop Reader. On Adobe's own plan comparison (checked October 21, 2026), Acrobat Reader is listed for "View, print, share, and comment," while "Create, edit, export, compare, and organize PDFs" is listed for Acrobat Pro, at US$19.99 a month on an annual plan. In paid Acrobat, page deletion lives in the Organize Pages tool: select the thumbnails, delete, and save.
Adobe also has a free online page remover. Its page says you sign in after Acrobat uploads the file, and that the file is handled by Adobe servers and deleted unless you sign in to save it. That is fine for a flyer. For a bank statement or a medical form, a tool that never uploads the file is the calmer choice. Browser document tools and privacy explains how to check whether a tool really keeps the file on your device.
Deleting pages from signed, locked, or fillable PDFs
Signed PDFs. A certificate-based digital signature covers the bytes of the whole file. Adobe's technical note on digital signatures says any attempt to alter the document by modifying the file will invalidate the existing signature. Deleting a page is exactly that kind of change, so check for a signature first. If you need fewer pages from a signed contract, ask the sender for a new signed copy, or delete the pages before anyone signs. A drawn signature image from the signature maker is just a picture on the page and is not affected the same way.
Password-protected PDFs. Organize PDF works on unlocked files and tells you clearly when a file is encrypted, including files that open without a password but carry editing restrictions. Unlock PDF removes the password once you enter it, and you open the unlocked copy in Organize PDF. An e-Aadhaar uses a fixed password format, explained in what is the Aadhaar PDF password. For a file with editing restrictions only, Unlock PDF removes them after you confirm you own the document or have permission. Why does my PDF say SECURED? explains how to see what those restrictions block.
Fillable forms. When a file has a standard fillable form, Organize PDF spots it and offers to flatten the visible filled values first, so they stay exactly as they look on the page. It asks you to confirm, since flattened fields are no longer editable.
What deleting a page does not do
- It does not redact anything. Hidden text, comments, and a black box drawn over a line on the pages you keep all stay in the file. Use a real redaction tool for that.
- It does not make the file much smaller unless the deleted pages were heavy photos. If a portal still rejects the size, run it through Compress PDF after you finish deleting.
- It does not renumber printed page numbers. If the pages have numbers in the footer, the gaps will show. Add fresh numbers with Add page numbers once the page set is final.
Order matters: delete and reorder first, then number, then compress. How to prepare a PDF for an upload portal covers the rest of the checklist.

Key takeaways
- RealScaner Organize PDF deletes PDF pages for free in the browser: tick the pages, press Delete, export, and download.
- Organize PDF copies the kept pages into a new file instead of turning them into images, so text stays selectable and page sizes are kept.
- On a Mac, Preview deletes pages from View > Thumbnails, and on iOS 26 or later the Preview app deletes a page from its thumbnail menu.
- The free Adobe Acrobat Reader does not organize pages; Adobe lists page organizing under the paid Acrobat Pro plan.
- Deleting a page from a signed PDF invalidates the digital signature, and it does not remove hidden text or comments on the pages you keep.
